Making FreeWriter

From Playing Cards to AI-Guide

In the bustling corridors of creativity, FreeWriter began as a humble card game named "Campfire Stories." Imagine the excitement, the clinking of glasses as ideas flowed, only to hit a little bump—another group launched a card game with the same name!

Yet, in the world of innovation, obstacles are merely stepping stones. We realized our deck was not just a game but a versatile toolkit for storytelling. AJ Louis, with a sparkle in his eye, wielded these cards like a maestro, crafting short tales, hosting tabletop role-playing games (TTRPG), and even inspiring children to narrate stories for their own video game creations. The cards became more than paper—they turned into portals for imagination.

Amidst this whirlwind, a robust storytelling framework emerged at the Apple Developer Academy, under the guidance of Anny Staten and Dr. Sarah Gretter. The cards connected dots, ideating stories and building narratives, all while AJ founded "Designer Stories" during his stint at Operation School, mentored by Racheal Allen. It was here that the cards transformed into a collaborative game, engaging clients in creative storytelling.

Enter Teasha Cable of C-Model, who urged the leap from cards to technology. Thus began our Techstars journey, where we discovered a need for a tool catering to the distracted, hyperactive minds. Redesigning FreeWriter for the focus-challenged user became our mission.

With the talented team at Vyudu, we developed a tool ready to launch in the New Year, only to hold back, perfecting the freeflow system. As we await the MVP launch, our journey from "Campfire Stories" to FreeWriter is a testament to resilience, creativity, and the magic of storytelling.
